Paranesti is a municipality of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Region established by Kallikratis Plan. It was the result of merging the pre-existing municipalities Nikiforos and Paranesti. The area of the new municipality is 1037.82 square kilometers and its population of 3,901 inhabitants according to 2011 census. The seat of the new municipality was appointed to Paranesti.
