Lake Kremaston
Lake Kremaston is the largest artificial lake in Greece. It was formed in 60s as a result of the construction of Kremaston hydroelectric dam, it is continuously supplied by Acheloos, Agrafiotis, Tavropos and Trikeriotis rivers. It is located between Aitoloakarnania and Haryana prefectures, which are connected by Episkopi bridge, it is about 60 km away from Agrinio and about 55 km away from Karpenisi.
The creation of the lake directly affected the life of local residents as several villages were under the lake water, forcing them to leave their homes and properties. The same fate had unfortunately many historical bridges and churches, among them the famous Manolis bridge and the Byzantine Episkopi church, which was built in the 8th century and was dedicated to the Virgin Mary.
The incomparable beauty of the lake with its turquoise water, fjords created and the numerous small islands will really charm the visitor making him think you’re in some exotic destination.
Sport and also action fans will not generally remain unsatisfied, as in this area one can have a great experience in canoe kayak and the rafting.
