The Ukrainian city of Lebedyn is the center of the Lebedyn district, a city of regional significance, that belongs to the Sumy region. The date of the city’s foundation in 1654, being also the first mention of the city. The city is located on the river Vlishanka. From the north to the south the city stretches for 10 km, and from west to east – 6.25 km. Within the city, the creek of Trufanka flows from the lake of the same name in the central part of the settlement into the river Vilshanka. On the southern outskirts of the city is the lake Lebedinskoe , surrounded by a forest. Its area along with the surrounding bows is 0.50 square kilometers. In addition, there are several small lakes in the city. Around the city of Lebedyn there are many coniferous forests. The distance from the regional center (Sumy city) is 42.5 kilometers. The city’s area is 27.4 square kilometers. As of January 1, 2017, the population of Lebedyn is 26,126 people. The city of Lebedyn belongs to the category of small cities of moderate development.
