Participation Of The Network Of Cities With Lakes In The 4th Greek-Russian Civil Society Forum On «Greece – Russia: 2nd Millennium Of Friendly Relations», On 1 And 2 November 2016 In Athens

The 4th Greek – Russian Civil Society Forum was held with great success in the city of Athens and specifically at Zappeion, on 1 and 2 November 2016. This year’s forum was another action of the official program of Cross-Year 2016 in Greece and Russia, having as a main aim to further strengthening the relations of the two countries in economic, cultural and diplomatic level.

The event was honored with the presence of the Foreign Ministers of Russia and Greece, and was also attended by representatives of the two governments, public and private institutions and academics of the two countries. It is worth noting that in his welcome speech, the Foreign Minister of Russia, Mr. Sergei Lavrov stressed that the Greek-Russian Civil Society Forum gives great importance to the efforts of both countries to look into the future and their fields of cooperation.

The two-day program of this meeting was divided into the following sessions:

  • Session 1: «Greece -Russia – Europe: traditions of the cooperation and the common historical destiny»
  • Session 2: «The importance of the Orthodox traditional values in the modern world»
  • Session 3: «The cooperation among Greek and Russian universities»
  • Session 4: «Geopolitical dynamics in the Eastern Mediterranean»
  • Session 5: «The energy cooperation of Russia and Greece is the basis of long-term and mutually beneficial relations»

The Network of Cities with Lakes participated in the 4th Greek – Russian Civil Society Forum, providing both official guests and all visitors comprehensive information for the members and its actions and taking part in discussions for the prospects of cooperation of the Network with cities of the Russian Federation, in topics such as protection of the lake environment, proper management of water resources, sustainable tourist development of lakes and lakeside areas, education and culture etc.

The Forum was organized by the St. Andrew the First-Called Foundation, the Centre for European Studies & Studies «Ioannis Kapodistrias», the Greek-Russian Club «Dialogos» in collaboration with Pommel Holdings Inc. and the Hellenic Association for Energy Economics (HAEE).
